You're working too hard.
In orbit, use focused solar energy to mold a few hundred tons of gold into a "Discovery" re-entry shape or some other ballistically-stable form, and cover it with about ten feet of dense ablative. Slow it down, and let it drop it into a very shallow ocean or a wasteland. Mine the landing site.
