What do we know about the people who are really running the show there?

I don't think they can directly harm the USA, but Seoul is another matter for sure. Or Tokyo.

So do we just cut the off entirely and starve them out? Will China and
Russie come to their defense? An invasion might be a wee bit messy
all around.
