Space/Science » in reply to Failure to PERFORM or failure to DETECT?

Thusfar FIASCO is the correct term one way or the other...

If Advanced LIGO and Advanced VIRGO still "fail to detect" despite achieving "astrophysically interesting sensitivity ... with 10x the sensitivity ... and 1000 times the expected candidate signals" can we please stop waffling / making excuses and, as you say, "prompt a revision of our attempted understanding of physical laws"?

Assuming scientists are in fact honest enough to admit when a cherished / closely held belief is experimentally / empirically falsified... Or shall we push the finish ever further and further away?

LIGO should have been it. Advanced LIGO had BETTER be it. I doubt that responsible scientists will continue doling out a third time for "Super Advanced LIGO" or a fourth time for "Ultra Super Advanced LIGO."

If so, it might be time for taxpayers to write in and ask the plug be pulled...
