I was a little kid when they were coming out new.

If I remember my car history right, that was one of the last cars John DeLorean was involved left before he quit at GM.

John didn't fit in at GM. He wasn't conservative enough for them. He took too many chances. He was frustrated there because he couldn't create his visions. He was an artist with cars.
