re: PBS

Actually, I like PBS and NPR's editorial positions and I get most of my news from them. When I have time, I read Time and Newsweek, although I don't subscribe to either. And when I get a chance, I enjoy the NYT. I'm sorry if that disappoints you.

THe problem with the MSM is not political bias, it is a shameless trivialization of the news into infotainment. The alternative media, both left and right, are so obviously partisan that they, and the people who swear by them, cannot be taken seriously. I see little difference between Olbermann/Madow and Limbaugh/Coulter. I suspect that they are not even particularly committed politically. Both sides have simply identified a market of political zealots that consume their product and which they are exploiting commercially.

I am sure that there are also news sources on other parts of the political spectrum that do a good job of presenting the facts and identifying their editorializing, but I am not really a news junkie and I don't feel the need to seek them out. When I hear about an earthquake in Portugal or a strike in Australia, I don't need to have it explained politically to me. I rely on my education, my prejudices, and my instincts for my political biases, I don't try to justify them with analysis. Politics cannot be proven or disproven, only policies can be evaluated as successful or not. All else is strictly a matter of interpretation.
