I too am looking forward to seeing his replacement.
We should also be aware that this purge was at the Attorney General's instigation. It makes no sense Comey was axed for actions against Hillary that Trump had heaped praise on Comey for just a few days ago. (Not to mention, actions which had contributed mightily to Trump's election victory!) No, this is all about the Russian connection, as was the silencing of Sally Yates. It made no sense she was fired when her only crime was that she was trying to warn Trump that there might be treachery in his campaign. No good deed goes unpunished.
At first, I had imagined that Trump's connections to Putin were one-sided, that the Russian leader was merely taking advantage of some coincidental and innocent business deals and meetings to try to put himself in a position where he could influence or blackmail the new administration. Now I am reluctantly starting to revise that conclusion. It's a lot worse.
Consider, Trump now controls the Attorney General's office, and the FBI, the levers of government coercion are falling into his hands. He has the deck stacked in Congress and the Supreme Court. Only a free press stands between The Manchurian Candidate and Seven Days in May (Yes, the timing of this affair has been prophetic, if not downright theatrical.) And the press is under severe attack, has been for a while, now. And these are, after all, Conservative Republicans. They are the masters of the October Surprise, remember the Watergate Burglary, how the Iranian hostages were released within minutes of Ronald Reagan being elected? Remember how they offered aid and comfort to Iranian-backed terrorists in order to score points with another hostage release? Remember how Valerie Plame's Iran intelligence activities for the CIA were compromised in order to punish her journalist husband's exposure of the Bush gang's phony intelligence lead-up to the Iraq war? There's nothing these patriots won't do to further, protect and preserve our precious free enterprise system. Extremism in the pursuit of Capital is no vice. Squid pro quo.
The longer this festers without an independent investigation, (NFW Trump will allow one) the more it looks like outright collusion (or using Comey's delightful euphemism; "coordination"). Even if it WERE all just coincidence, the circumstantial evidence is now so damning that even a clean bill of health from a fair, thorough and conclusive investigation probably won't silence the rumors. The world is watching what they can only interpret as a slow-motion fascist coup in the United States of America . "Coordination", "Collusion", "Connection", "Conspiracy"--those are the words you are forced to use when None Dare Call it Treason.
That's a snarky historical allusion, look it up.

Perhaps "Night of the Long Knives" is a more apt metaphor.
