Cutting spending during a recession is something no president or congress have done since the 30s. Re-read that a few times a let it sink in.
No intelligent person expected this nightmare to be sorted out in 5 months. I personally expect at least 2 years. Many economists are now predicting the economy to start recovering by Fall. We'll see what happens.
