I happen to read the San Francisco Chronicle most days, in preference to the pallid blandness of the San Jose Mercury-News. I can tell you that the opinion of the citizens of San Francisco is solidly behind the composting initiative. An editorial pointed out the 74% of San Franciscans already compost. So in stark contrast to Tom's implication that evil Commies have forced this down the throats of the hapless victims in SF, the truth is that San Francisco's government runs the city in close accord with the wishes of the people.

A minor irony is to note that in the letters-to-the-editor section, the only critics are located outside of San Francisco (and seem to be the usual suspects who reliably parrot the RNC line). Carpet-baggers, in other words, outsiders trying to impose their alien views on a people against their will. The very sin that the Right tries to pin on the Left. Amusing, eh?

You'd think that Tom and the Right have enough to do trying to staunch the hemorraghing of their political position, but nooooooo, they still have plenty of energy to try and run other people's lives for them. Get your own house in order, guys, before you tell San Franciscans how to live.
