Flame

I'm developing a problem with those social networking sites.

I registered with FaceBook in order to see a friends site, and I registered with another one quite a while ago after I got a message saying another friend wanted to list me. So far, so good.

However, since then I've been bombarded with people who want to list me as a friend or business contact. Most of these are people who are acquaintances, all of them nice folks, but not people with whom I desire to be in regular contact. I don't especially want to tell them that, however. I like things just as they are.

But neither do I want to snub them and ignore the requests.

There are other people I don't know. A lot more people know me than I know due to my high visibility in some circles. It seems as if some of them are comfortable adding me even if they simply know me from one the the lectures I've done around the area, talks I've given or friends have told them I'd be worth knowing.

I'm not even sure what it means to be included in someone's page as a friend or business contact. I'm far more reclusive than I may seem, with many activities but only a few people. When I plan group mountain climbing activities I draw on the larger circle of people, but for day-to-day life I'm just fine, thanks.

I think I'm a bit sorry I registered.
