"WEST PALM BEACH, FL-- 2 South Florida cities set or tied heat records today. The mercury soared to 101 degrees in Vero Beach, a new all-time record. Fort Lauderdale tied its all-time high of 100 degrees.
The heat index made it feel even hotter.
According to WPTV NewsChannel 5 Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle, it is extremely rare for temperatures to exceed 100 degrees in Florida.
"All-time record highs are usually broken in July and August, not June," Weagle said. "This will go down in history as one of the hottest days EVER in South Florida."
A heat advisory for Palm Beach County is in effect until 7 pm and until 8pm for the Treasure Coast.
Temperatures are expected to cool off to the low 90s by tomorrow."
