For the life of me I do not understand...

...maybe someone can enlighten me.

I have known a few people in my life that have been laid off. What I do not understand, and I am trying to, is why they don't take a job or two or three...to make ends meet...

What I have witnessed is weeks, months and occasionally years of not working. Am I wrong in presuming that working at Wal-Mart or Burger King or both, is at the very least a temporary answer?
