Some day Earth will have a real debris ring
Should our planet and its big ol' Moon be left alone, in the coming eons
the Moon will eventually come back towards Earth (right now it is moving
away from us at five feet per century and subsequently slowing down
Earth's rotation rate) and be torn apart when it approaches our globe's
Roche limit.
Then we will have a visible ring of debris made up of the former Moon.
In a related matter, assuming there is anything still living on Earth by
then, how would a ring affect our climate and ecosystem? Would there
be enough material to reflect sunlight? And would the ring system have
enough mass to affect the tides and other elements?
