Does critical analysis of an artwork...

...improve or remove one's appreciation of it?

Does climbing a mountain take away its majesty? Or humble the explorer even more so?

In the Paleolithic there were people who stayed home in Africa while the rest spread into Eurasia... did they complain in similar ways?
