Dragon is a spacecraft. Like Orion.

Do I think Falcon 9 + Dragon will take people into space before Ares 1 + Orion.

Yes. Dragon can actually carry more people into space that the baseline Orion design. It's not going to carry people to lunar orbit and back (yet) - but for ISS access, it makes a LOT of sense.

All parties are agreeed, however, than once you switch from Ares 1 to something like Direct, or Side-Mount, or EELV - Orion becomes the long-link in the chain rather than the LV itself.
