The big 40th anniversary is today !!!
Lots of programs on radiostations and TV shows (not enough with just 2 recorders) and my conference this evening.
I've told my parents how thankful I was for them to have given birth to me early enough to be alive and fully realizing the enormity of the event!
There is a manned space program today because there was Apollo 11: the momentum, the jobs, the engineers, the companies and the humiliation had it had stopped, explain it.
The event simply was: the first time life as we know it stepped on another celestial body.
Going to Mars or returning back to the Moon won't ever match it.
In 10,000 years, that's what our era will be remembered for.
It could also be the last human endeavour. But that's not for us to judge.
What could be the next momentuous event? The discovery of extra-terrestrial life.
However, no one is sure how to achieve this. Perhaps in a laboratory, without even leaving the planet, it would suffice. Perhaps a trip to the stars is needed and nothing else can achieve this.
We don't know.
But at least, we had Apollo !
