Think of all the good that would do!
We've spent the last eighty years in the U.S. granting vast, near-limitless powers to the Federal government over the economic sphere.
As long as that situation exists, methods will be found for the economic sphere to exert some kind of influence over those with the power. Trying to block it would be like trying to block a flood with a net.
And if private contributions are outlawed, who pays for campaign costs? The "public?" Then who decides how much tax money will be spent? And who decides who gets all the money? Certainly they aren't going to split it evenly among all registered candidates. So there will be some "rules."
Do you think there's a finite chance those "rules" will be written to favor incumbents and special interests? Have you noticed how the whole idea of congressional districts has developed over the years?
You want to fix things, take away the power. It's that simple.
If you don't want to do that, ask yourself why.
