imo the effect of constitutional convention would be comparable to a declaraiion of martial law.

Massive unrest and a possible coup de tat. Our constitution has served us for well over 200 years. We don't need a hall full of politicians trying to rewrite it. Amendments are provided for, use what is tried and true
