Messenger the mercury probe will make its 3rd flyby in 52 days. Orbit insertion is still 587 days (~20 mo) off. Messenger was launched ~5yrs ago and has traveled ~5 billion miles. The road to Mercury is a tough one!

DAWN was launched almost 2 years ago, and has a little over 2 years (747 days) until its arival at Vesta(late 2011). After circling Vesta for almost a year it will then take another 3 years to travel to Ceres(2015) for another year of orbital study. This mission excites me as much as any. What discoveries will be with two new "worlds" to explore expecially Ceres, a dwarf planet and by far the largest asteroid the main belt. One can't help but wonder if Ceres might contain all the raw materials necessary for colonization or supplying space habitats.
DAWN will be the first probe to oribitally explore two different solar system bodies and is a demonstration of the specific impulse improvement with ion drives.

Given the delays in the mars program, 2011 will be like a restart in solar system explortion. Yes, we have the ongoing Casini mission and the continuing great performance of mars orbiters and rovers, but what have you done for me lately?! (OK, I'll give you LRO.)
2011 will see (hopefully, finally) the arrival of the Mars Science Laboratory (Curiosity rover), and the orbit insertions of both Messenger at Mercury and DAWN at Vesta. In other words 2011 could be a VERY GOOD year. 2012 should see a MOUNTAIN of new data (Kepler "earth" announcements + the results from all of the above probes should be rolling in).
Clearly, solar sytem exploration cannot compete with instant gratification junkies, but the answers returned are a bit more profound than which team scored the winning goal last night.
Messenger, Dawn: Solar system exploration not for the impatient
