Banks owe it to their stockholders to lend responsibly. They owe it to their customers to sell honest financial products, not make lousy loans and sell them as safe securities. Business law in this country is set up to protect individuals with limited resources from predatory practices of large entities with vastly more resources and it should be based on a demonstrated history of failure in pure let the buyer beware capitalism.
It amazes me how many people here seem to want to return to the days of bluebloods and paupers where most power resides in the hands of a few. Blame the poor for failing to get an education, blame them for drinking and partying instead of working, but don't blame them for being used as a ploy to make old school slow growth banks look like new school growth industies so upper management could get great pay days for selling fraudulent products.
