As usual, Ezra is spot on with many astute observations. The idea has been burned into our collective consciousness that there are blue states and red states and a few purple swing states. The "safe" states for each party are untouchable and not worth investing a lot to compete in. But this election completely wiped out that paradigm. Democrats won in so many deep red states not just because Trump and his policies and war are so unpopular, but also because democrats picked such excellent "custom made" candidates for each state. And they won with a host of moderates, who will now increase the moderate clout in the Democratic Party. Despite all the noise, only two DSA candidates won Senate seats, and they underperformed in their states even though they prevailed. FL might have flipped had there been a moderate there, as the DSA candidate only lost by a couple points.
Another thing that stuck out to me here was the comment, "...Trump would rather have republicans lose embracing him than win running away from him." So absolutely true. Trump doesn't give a shit about the GOP losing, only how it effects him.
Ezra Klein: The big tent is real; the political map is fake.
