Pictures from year-ago Charlottesville were reprinted recently, on the anniversary, including the iconic marchers proudly waving the flags of America's two greatest enemies (we never went to war, directly, with the Soviet Union).
I marvelled once again at the cluelessness, the profound ignorance of history:
America was a proud member of the coalition that killed an estimated five million Nazis in World War II. Killing the animals our homegrown Nazis worship is one of America's proudest moments.
But on the other hand, the other day, while I was talking to my Jewish neighbor about Nazis, it hit me that on balance, letting a few assholes run around doing Nazi cosplay every once in a while is a way of commemorating that bloody victory over Nazis. Sure, they may think they're celebrating something entirely different, but the rest of us, grounded in reality, can perhaps enjoy the pageant of the pathetic these losers put on for us. It's a reminder that Nazis weren't, and aren't, just evil; the vast majority were/are morons as well. It only took a handful of three-digit IQs to build the Third Reich, with the help of so many useful idiots.
