I hear ya, man. Escaping the butchery is a one of the key attractions of the streaming services.
Personally, even on a streaming service, if I see the runtime of a TV episode is precisely 43 minutes +/- 10 seconds, I know that it prioritizes advertising space over quality, and I'm more inclined to ignore these broadcast retreads. It's also a bit dispiriting to compare the modern runtime to that of shows produced back in the '60s: Typically nearer to 50 minutes, sometimes more.
OTOH, it's a delight to see the runtime varying wildly on a made-for-streaming series, because you know that the producers were given the freedom to just do a good job.
With movies, you're almost guaranteed to see the unexpurgated original on streaming. But even than you have to take note of which "edition" of the movie they're showing, and look for code words like "theatrical" or "director's cut". And on the streaming music services, nothing disgusts me more than seeing the word "(clean)" appended to the title of a song--"clean" is a chickenshit euphemism for "censored".
BTW, "The Man in the High Castle" is coming back next month for its third season. I rest my case.
