The claims made in the press release are definitely interesting. I don't think anybody with a little knowledge would dispute that UV eradicates viruses. As somebody who's had a lot of optical fibers threaded into his body, I have to admit that when I heard that part of Trump's comments, I did think of shining UV light down a fiber into the lungs. Course, the lungs aren't a simple sack, they're more like sponges, and the press release seems to describe applying the UV to the trachea and the the back of the nose above the mouth. They're only speculating that it might be effective down in the lungs.
But in the unspoken context of Trump's wild and wildly ignorant claims, I'm quite sure Trump had no knowledge whatsoever of research at Cedars-Sinai. In other words, this press release doesn't ex post facto make Trump's comments knowledgeable or smart. He still pulled them out of his ass based on nothing at all.
In any case, his ignorant claims about sunlight aren't really the problem, it's his stupid and dangerous recommendation that injecting or ingesting disinfectants can cure coronavirus. Emergency room and poison control lines all over the country report a large number of calls from people asking if it's true, or in some cases, asking for help because they tried it. One report described a guy mixing chlorine bleach with mouthwash and swishing it around in his mouth. Damn, I'll bet that burned. And depending on the mouthwash, the chlorine can combine with chemicals in the mouthwash to produce something really toxic.
Evolution in action.
