I agree with you. If Trump can't run, it will touch off a struggle among the Right for who gets to lead the Party he has created. My money is on Ted Cruz or Newt Gingrich, but there are at least a half dozen others ready to fight for the prize. Gang wars never lead to weakening organized crime, the survivor always emerges stronger.
It will make a martyr out of Trump, and generate a whole slew of conspiracy theories about how the Deep State deliberately infected him.
Remember, this is a cult we're dealing with here. There is nothing that will convince his followers they are mistaken, and there is nothing the fascists won't do to feed the true believers the lies required to keep them loyal.
There's too much at stake here, taxes for rich people might go up, Obamacare might come back, and something might get done about global warming. They will kill to stop any of that from happening.
