Not everyone's definition of "deity" (i.e. god/s) is the same. Depending on the definition, you run the paradox that the moment a god is discovered, it's no longer a god - merely a very powerful being, perfectly within our laws of physics.
Then again, a distinction could be drawn between "Supreme Creator" and "Supreme Architect". I wonder how our Founding Fathers rationalised it?
