You don't have to just train the pilots, you have to train the ground crews that service the aircraft and the equipment used to service them. Most people don't realize that most modern jets spend most of their time in the hangar, not up in the air. Less complex equipment, like tanks, also have much servicing and maintenance requirements. Tanks, especially, don't even move into battle, they are hauled there by special carrier vehicles or railroad cars.
