"Bodice Ripper" is a term for a style of romance novel. According to my old date, romance novels are very stylized, must adhere to certain plot lines, characters, tropes, etc. Eventually passions are so high that clothing must be ripped off.

So much paperwork! So many books. The genre makes soooo much money.
