There are places in Europe where they have the hives in a shed with openings. Like a bee shed. We do our best to insulate, but it is not always the cold. I'll be cracking open the hive soon to see what I can see. All it takes is for the queen to die. Long live the queen.

Phosphorus? Yes. Also, potassium for good growth. I sometimes add glacial flour to my compost to get a range of trace elements. Geology-biology-chemistry! Mrs. P. knows far more about this stuff than I do. I'm the guy with the shovel who learns what he can from her.

Actually, my compost bin is more of a worm bin.
