Conservative were not driven off the Zone. They departed for other places because they did not care to be refuted.
A lot of liberal voices left too. As I recall, the real decline happened after Lee's horrid post about what to do to a female reporter. Then the change to a registration platform, the ill fated Tiki-Wiki. Many did not want to register.
I enjoyed sparing with TB. He brought receipts and wrote well. Tech was fun too. A bit over the edge of sanity, but entertaining to cross swords with. Lindy found her FB UFO community more comforting than being challenged here.
Nobody was banned. Their user profiles are still active. They can come back in the airlock anytime they want. They choose not to. The kitchen was too hot.
What made the HZ great in its heyday was the back and forth of differing ideas. It's why I joined. Like my big family, we have much in common but a vast spectrum of political and religious beliefs. Doesn't stop us from talking, discussing, or arguing. Or learning from each other, for that matter. I'd be the first to say "Hey, TB, how are you doing?" if he decided to come back.
