I too had some excellent teachers that taught me how to dig deep, especially one of my graduate school advisors. If I didn't check sources, then check the sources for those sources...etc.
But it is exhausting. Especially when the lie is obvious. "Look," they'll say, "at all the footnotes!" I shake my head.
The information highway is full of potholes and offramps that go nowhere.
