There's something going here on besides demand and monopolies
The $ price is ZERO for the actual consumer. Vaccines in the US and Canada are free for any citizen.
In Canada they negotiate drug prices and actually put a cap on new drug prices:
"the cost of the new drug may be no higher than the cost of existing drugs used to treat the same disease... once a maximum drug price for a new patented medication has been set, price increases are limited by changes in the general Consumer Price Index, so they can't rise faster than overall inflation."
Our government doesn't shop around. Why would they? They haven't bothered to balance the budget in 35 years...
