Thanks for the clarification. The real problem with the "tax fossil fuels" solution is it is so easily repealed. All it takes is one GOP administration and Congress, and the entire carbon tax plan is tanked. They would slash all the taxes overnight and we're back to square one. And Democrats implementing such a massive tax hike on society would almost surely usher in GOP control.
And I'm under no illusions that any of these cabon mitigation technologies are going to solve our problem. But I hold out hope that something will be discovered that can help, and I am not giving up on that possibility.
The real solution is, as you say, using the market by making clean energy abundant and cheaper than fossil fuels. I'm also hopeful on that front. That's the only real way we will wean civilization off of coal and oil.
