It's a bit weird to tout Orwell as a great thinker and user of language, but be reluctant to be "limited" by what he actually said. I noticed the same hiccup back on the "socialism" thread, and you were the one who brought the Orwell definitions in. I could almost feel you diving off the wagon when that last post on socialism and communism was headed somewhere unpleasant.

Real discussion of issues is impossible as long as one or more of the participants believe words can mean anything they want, and meanings can be flipped around depending on the conversation. And of course, that's the idea, isn't it? As long as you can't point to something and talk about what it is, there's no danger of someone pointing to something you'd rather they didn't point to.
