Alberta is voting on whether to begin a process of independence from Canada. Thankfully, polls look like about 66% of Albertans will reject leaving Canada. The 1/3 who support it are rightwingers who started this movement out of anger at Ottawa for Covid restrictions and vaccine mandates.

Worse, the Trump admin has unofficially backed the separatist movement. US Treasury and other admin officials have met with and encouraged the leaders of the separatist party -- an incredibly hostile and utterly asinine move against a nation that before Trump was our closest ally in the world.

Dear god the madness.
