'blade runner' was our first look at a future gone wrong. and it was wrong not because something terrible happened to make it that way, but because all the things we wanted to happen and expected to happen maybe weren't as good as we thought. it was a warning not to wish too hard for something, we might just get it.

i saw the movie when i was just a kid, and it had already been out for a while. it scared me, this wasn't the star trek universe in our far future, it was our future and it was just around the corner. it wasn't our world with all the problems taken out, it was a future world with the same problems, only worse.
