I hate to state the obvious, but then I guess it's not so obvious to people who ignore reality. Spending cuts on that level over that short a period of time in the middle of a weak economy will dramatically shrink the economy in the short and medium run and will thus shrink the tax base, INCREASING THE DEFICIT.
