No, there's a lot of clever people with plenty of self-discipline and delayed gratification that have been told they can't go anywhere.
Income mobility in this country has been extensive, and has held steady since the 1980s. When I was looking up Florida higher education costs, I found out that there are almost three times as many students in the system today as there were in 1980. In fact, I looked at a lot of actual statistics when Bowser did his "American Dream" bit. The current recession aside, the long-term systemic issues aren't what we're being sold.
Now tell me: who is incessantly driving this idea of hopelessness and class warfare into the heads of Americans? We can see who is trying to make us "pissed," and it's pretty obvious why. It's not like it's the first time, or the first place, it's been tried. See the post above on the Chinese "economic model."
