Interesting thought.
I don't know. Might have brought it back from the Middle East. It also seems reasonable that they would have thought of it themselves.
It does make sense, though, that a nomadic society would have thought of it. They would have more need for rugs, which might do best in a dry climate.
And I don't know how to find out.
