Hello, Dave!
As part of my on-going and insatiable quest for knowledge :D, I have been reading Knocked Out by My Nunga-Nungas: The Further, Further Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (sequel to Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging and On the Bright Side, I'm Now the Girlfriend of a Sex God) by Louise Rennison.
In the back of each book is a glossary written by Georgia herself ;) translating English to American for all her little American friends here in Cheeseburger-a-Go-Go-Land. In there she defines the word "prat" as "a gormless oik", but nowhere does she define "gormless" or "oik". It is fun to say, though.
So, my question: As the current resident Brit, would you please tell me what an oik is and what this gorm is that it seems to have lost?
Thenk yaw.
Best regards--
Mary Anne
