<Sect leader convicted of first-degree murder in starvation death of baby son
“TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) —A leader of a religious sect who said he believed he was fulfilling God's prophesy and expected a miracle as he watched his infant son starve to death was convicted Friday of first-degree murder.”
I assume it’s a Christian sect, the kids are named Jeremiah and Samuel.
This was right in the good ol’ US of A. Recently. Dateline July 02, 2002.
A Muslim “p” could take that news item and make as big a deal of it as you do their problems. Could make Christianity and the US look pretty grim. It is tragic – parents in the name of a Christian God let a kid starve. What kind of country is that, what sort of barbaric religion?
When you get right down and look at anything it will be messy. When you look at your town, your family, yourself, or my town, my family or myself, there are parts that are not pretty. Period.
The reason the Pakistani rape matter hit the news in the West is because it is “news”, rare, and abberation.
A proper reply would be it hit the news, the people went to court, it wasn’t the usual practice.
Demonize Islam if you must. Spread hate, misunderstanding. There are 1 billion Muslims, of all kinds and stripes, some of them weird, some of them living in unpleasant cultures. Some of them are Americans. And some of them are bad people, impossible to understand, beyond impossible to avoid hating. Keep pointing out those folks, have them represent all Islam to you, and you’ll do yourself and the vast majority of them a disfavor.
I forget, you may actually believe your own stuff, and all Muslims are all evil.
Or, you could help make American a kinder, gentler place. We could clean up our own act a bit.
