"They became belligerent, and the checker called their supervisor," Miami-Dade Detective Joey Giordano said. "A supervisor called police, and we got out to the plane. But by the time we arrived, the plane had already taxied out."

MIAMI, Florida -- CNN
The pilot and co-pilot of an America West Airlines flight were charged with operating an aircraft and driving under the influence Monday after failing a Breathalyzer test, airline officials and Miami-Dade police said.

"It is our understanding that a captain and a first officer failed a Breathalyzer test," said Patty Nowack, a spokeswoman for America West Airlines. "If that indeed is the case, the company maintains a zero-tolerance policy."

America West Capt. Thomas Cloyd, 44, and First Officer Christopher Hughes, 41, were charged with two counts of operating an aircraft under the influence and one count of driving under the influence for driving the aircraft on the taxiway.
