Nelson Mandela thinks the way he does because he is a communist, and hates the West. He hates the fact that Western values made his nation wealthy, and that he is living off that capital now as South Africa slowly sinks.

Without the enthusiastic support of the Soviet Union--for all the best humanitarian reasons, I'm sure--the ANC would not even exist today.
