And you think you know.....

Someone gave this to me, I found it fascinating.

Captain Kangaroo recently turned 75 (BD 6-27-27), odd he never looked a day under 75.

Lee Marvin is buried at the Arlington National Cemetery next to 3 and 4 Star Generals. This offends some people, his marker only shows his name, rank (PVT), and service (USMC).
Why is this guy who served his time like a million others rate this honored place? He was a movie star, yeah, but most movie stars in WW II served in rear Echelon positions, trotted out for the camera’s during war bond promotions. Lying in the place we set aside for the best of the best?

I’ve always like Lee Marvin, but was unaware of his combat experience. Did you know he had won the Navy Cross on Iwo Jima? There is only one higher Navy Award ... The Medal of Honor.
If that is high praise of his character, he credits his Sergeant with an even greater show of bravery under fire.

The following is dialogue from the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Lee Marvin was his guest. (I do not know the date)

Johnny; “Lee, I’ll bet a lot of people are unaware you were a Marine during the initial landing at Iwo Jima. And during the course of that action you were severely wounded and earned the Navy Cross.”

Lee;<i/> “Yeah, Yeah, I got shot square in the ass and they gave me the Cross for securing a hot spot half way up Suribachi... bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is guys getting shot hauling you down.
But Johnny, at Iwo I served under the bravest man I ever knew...We both got the Cross the same day, but what he did for his made mine look cheap by comparison.
The dumb bastard actually stood up on Red Beach and directed his troops to move forward and get the hell off the beach. That Sargent and I have been lifelong friends. When they brought me off Suribachi we passed the Sargent, he lit a smoke and passed it to me lying on my belly on the litter and said.”

“Where’d they get you Lee?”

“Well Bob, if you make it home before me, tell mom to sell the outhouse!
Johnny, I’m not lying.. Sargent Keeshan was the bravest man I ever knew ...

Bob Keeshan... you and the world know him as Captain Kangaroo.”
