<Federal Judge Holds Norton in Contempt for Failing to Fix Indian Trust

Everyone has had troubles with this. Anyone know why?

(Besides “Clinton left such a mess no one could figure it out” or the ever popular “They’re dumb”.)

My guess is that by now they are legitimately owed, so much money no administration wants to take the financial “hit”.

It looks as if any accounting would include so much back debt, interest and maybe even damages it would dent a budget, and adversely impact other programs, irritate millions of voters, all for “only” 300,000 Native Americans.

And there may be many, many private companies who owe back payments, too, and a fair accounting might really dent them, too.

Not politically wise. And that’s only a guess. I really don’t know.
