All part of the learning curve

It is terrible if the child came down with cancer as a result of this "experimantal" treatment, but risk is a part of every new treatment. Organ transplants, in utero surgery, new drugs, and genetic treatments do have unintended consequences, but the more we learn, by doing them, the safer and more efficient they become.

We are far from knowing everything about genes and how to manipulate them, but we know far more now than we did ten years ago. And we will know far more ten years from now than we do today. When I speak of building better people, I'm talking long term, not tomorrow. Twenty, thirty ,or even fifty years down the road doesn't seem that far away when you're an over the horizen time of person.
