Why'd ya hafta spoil a perfectly good joke - I enjoyed it tremendously and then suddenly after reading your post I felt all the levity leave me.
Is a nation which lives in worthless servitude and terror under a psychopathic and sadist dictator something to defend?
When I hear all the anti-war voices I seriously ask myself the following:
Do they really know how people live over there?
Do they know even why the Kurds are so hated?*
Is it just anti-Americanism or anti-semitism which makes them defend the Iraqi dictator?
When the Nazi empire crumpled my family was glad. Since '38 It had become a terrifying and stressful way to live life. Friends would disappear because of uttering the wrong thing to a neighbor. (who would today be a prime candidate for a homeowners association board position.) Children (mostly teens) were taught to turn in their parents.
Neighbor against neighbor. That's how it is in Iraq right now. Each one saying Yes YES YES! to Saddam, for fear of summary execution of themselves and their families.
While it's good to keep a perspective on the horror of war, it seems all too often folks don't seem to understand what the war will really be about and that a nightmare is being lived out by the Iraqi people even as we post.
That said...I indeed hope the graves will be very, very few, and the rejoicing and future for Iraq will be very high.
Keep Postin' mary Anne!

The Kurds' religion believes Satan will be restored to his former elevated position and that those who mistreat or speak badly of Satan while he is down and out - will be judged harshly and that those who show him kindness will be rewarded. For this belief they have been labeled "Satan Worshippers" by Islam and ruthlessly, persecuted in a genocidal manner in Iraq and as you mentioned before, Turkey. Classic religious persecution - Hitler had the Jews to slaughter, Saddam has the Kurds.
