Exchange on the sidelines at today's soccer game

The burly grandfather of one of my youngest daughter's teammates was standing behind the front row of lawnchairs, one of which was occupied by his wife, and another by his sister. Another grandchild was due to play at a different field about 2 miles away.

"When are we leaving?" the lady asked her husband.

"You tell me when you want to go," he replied. "I always do just what you say, just like I obeyed my mother."

His sister chimed in with, "That's why Mom tied you to the clothesline in the yard."

"Hey!" he said. "I was 4!" Pause. "She had my wrist on a lead and put it on a clothesline, just like the dog run. It worked until I figured out the knot..."

Moral: Never take your sister anywhere.

Mary Anne

PS-- I put my toddlers on harnesses in the mall. I got looks and looks. The admiring ones were from other parents.
