It would never work for the US to be part of something bigger than itself. Look at the fuss raised because the UN has many different members with many different agendas. The US doesn't tolerate any but its own.

Heck, people raise hell over the idea of US troops being commanded by foreign commanders. To say nothing of the fundamental Christian intolerance of anything but their own brand of fundamental Christianity.

(Even the temporal support of Israel is only until the rapture, and then the Jews get theirs. They become Christian or else <as I remember that part>.)

Nope, the US is not going to be a part of anything bigger. The reasons for it don't fit into a sound bite. And jingoism is the strongest force out there - ask Iraq.
