...be mistaken for "anti-Canadianism," rest asured I love Canada and Canadians. I was born and raised in Calgary, where most of my family still resides.
But the "world's Boyscout" thing has got to end. Canada has got to come to terms with the world it which exists, and with the fact that it is used--in the worst sense of the word--by people who, in the end, are as hostile to it as they are to the US.
Canada is a convenient way-station for those who hate America, who hate democracy and capitalism, and Canadians who casually shrug off such accusations (like the current PM) have mistaken their own irresponsibility for some sort of European sophistication.
I'd hate to see a tighter border between Canada and the US, but if Canada refuses to become a more responsible defender of North America (and yes, of its interests), then no one could fault the US for making it a much harder border to cross.
