Tall tales

Just because Republicans won the election does not make your list a set of "tall tales."

1. The "non-elected" Majority Leader.

Well, was his position the result of an election, or the result of a backroom deal? Had the Republican Senate lead turned out to be a lot closer, i.e. one seat, you can bet your bottom dollar (pound?) that Daschle would even now be busy selling a party jump to another liberal Republican.

2. Democrats stole the election by dumping Torricelli.

This was a front-runner for the last thirty something days. Happily, with the regaining of the Senate by the Republicans this one is no longer relevant. Now watch NJ and other states work to cover up loopholes so that this never happens again (NJ has to - mandated by the NJSC).

Again, just because it isn't relevant doesn't make this low maneuver a "tall tale." Torricelli wasn't replaced because he died. He wasn't replaced for any indictments or crimes (the current spin). He was replaced solely because he fell behind in the polls.

3. Democrats will sue to steal election.

Has been running for at least a couple of months. Didn't happen (unless someone cares to correct me). Shoulda bet on it. Drat.

We did bet on it. Remember? That it did not happen was due to two pieces of great good fortune: first, the Senate was well and truly taken over by the Republicans. No tie, no "one-seat margin." to make changing one race worth it. Second, in the races that did occur, most of the margins were so large that there was no way that cooking the outcome would change anything.

Now, South Dakota's race is riding on about 500 votes. Had the control of the Senate been hanging on this, you can bet there would be a lot more fireworks there. Maybe instigated by the Republicans, to be perfectly honest.
